5/31/2023 0 Comments X lives of wolverinePercy is a writer who clearly understands Wolverine in a way that goes beyond the broadest brushstrokes of someone who is the best at what he does - even if what he does isn’t very nice. It’s a key structural decision and frames the issue through the lens of what it really means for Logan to relive his history in this way. With three different time periods all being tackled in a singular issue, Percy makes the expert decision to tie them together through Logan’s narration. Writer Benjamin Percy does this admirably, and it especially shines in X Lives of Wolverine #4. They are famously very thorny and very easy to lose a reader amongst especially when there are multiple time periods to handle and multiple strands of the same narrative to tangle together. By Rebecca Gault - It takes a skilled writer to weave a time travel narrative.

5/31/2023 0 Comments The Ethical Slut by Dossie EastonI am glad that this series has gotten more flexible since I started. Although this chapter bears the same title as one found in that edition, it is safe to say it has been updated to reflect on the decade or so of experience they have gained in the intervening time. Hardy was forced to use the pen name Catherine A. The authors definitely have experience in child-rearing - when the first edition of this book came out, Janet W. This chapter of The Ethical Slut is all about what happens when the lives of children intersect with the lives of ethical sluts and others in open or non-traditional relationships. In this installment we discuss Chapter 12, “Childrearing.” The Ethical Slut, Second Edition by Dossie Easton and Janet W. Comments on the topics in this discussion are welcome anytime, even from people who aren’t following along in the book. If you’d like to catch up on past installments, check the list at the bottom of the series introduction. I am leading a read-through of The Ethical Slut, 2nd edition. Global warming is the most overwhelming boundary. Currently we lose over 100 species per million per year. The boundary is 10 species going extinct per million per year. Loss of biodiversity reduces every form of ecological resilience. Drawing on a landmark paper in Nature in 2009 (“ A Safe Operating Space for Humanity,” by Johan Rockström et al.) Lynas outlined the nine boundaries we should stay within, starting with three we’ve already crossed. Some of those global alterations made by humans may be approaching tipping points-thresholds-that could destabilize the whole Earth system. Welcome to the Anthropocene, our very uniquely human geological era.” We’ve raised the temperature of the Earth system, reduced the alkalinity of the oceans, altered the chemistry of the atmosphere, changed the reflectivity of the planet, hugely affected the distribution of freshwater, and killed off many of the species that share the planet with us. In doing this we’ve had to capture between a quarter and a third of the entire photosynthetic production of the planet. In half a million years we’ve gone from prodding anthills with sticks to building a worldwide digital communications network. We’ve made a bit of a comeback since then. We were down to just a thousand or so embattled breeding pairs. “About 74,000 years ago,” Lynas began, “a volcanic event nearly wiped out humanity.
